Newly built arena receives $1.2 million digital replay control room
The newly built Sprint Center sits on eight and a half acres in Kansas City, Missouri, and is a multi-purpose venue that hosts everything from sports and concert events, to family and dirt shows. As the heart of the city, Sprint Center hosted 140 events in its first year, including AFL's Kansas City Brigade, the Big 12 Men's Basketball Championship, nine sold out Garth Brooks concerts, and a host of other additional events.
When the arena was being constructed, planners installed a 16 LED screen scoreboard, 360-degree ribbon board, and two 50-foot ribbon boards, but needed a state-of-the-art control room to drive them. Alpha Video, the leading national integrator and specialist for the sports and entertainment industry, was contracted to integrate the $1.2 million digital replay control room, which was designed by Dallas-based consulting firm, WJHW. Construction on the control room lasted three months, and manufacturers incorporated in the installation include: Ikegami, Ross Video, Pro-Bel, and Avid.
Brian Doll, Manager, Facilities Presentation, Sprint Center, said, "Alpha Video delivered a state-of-the-art video control room and made sure trained professionals were here so the room was ready for opening day. Alpha Video's work did not stop once the Sprint Center was open, and they have continued to support us to ensure that we continue to have the best equipment and service support available to us. Alpha Video has truly helped in Sprint Center's success."
Jeff Volk, Integration Specialist, Alpha Video's Sports & Entertainment Group, said, "This project was very exciting for us to work on, as it was a newly built building with the capabilities to handle a sizeable state-of-the-art audiovisual integration. The control room houses the most current video technology, and promises to be one of the best in the sports industry."
