Dayton Dragons Bring the Heat

On a Winning Streak

The Dayton Dragons will be taking the field today for their season opener at Fifth Third Field with a video control room significantly upgraded by Alpha Video Sports & Entertainment Group, the leading national video integrator for the sports venue industry. The Dayton Dragons are the very successful Single-A affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds, and currently hold the longest sell-out streak in all North American professional sports. Owned and operated by Mandalay Baseball, the Dragons remain committed to keeping the ballpark one of the best in the country.

We’ve been highly impressed by the level of technology knowledge and demand for excellence by the Dayton Dragon technicians. Thanks to their determination, Fifth Third Field now has, to my knowledge, the most advanced HD video control room infrastructure in all of MiLB. Every MiLB team should check out what they have done here to improve the experience for their fans watching the game, both in the ballpark and at home.” - Alpha Video Sports Account Executive Darren Whitten

Ultimately, this commitment lead them to improve the video systems prior to the start of the 2014 season. The new video control room and broadcast systems, integrated by Alpha Video Sports, distribute HD video to the ballpark’s video scoreboard and improve the quality of the broadcast streamed to Minor League Baseball. Systems installed by Alpha Video include Sony HSC-100R multiformat cameras, Sony BRC-H900 PTZ cameras, Ross Video Carbonite switcher, Ross Video 4-Channel Blackstorm server, Utah Scientific 144x144 router and multiple Soundcraft Si Expression 3 digital mixer with Dante interface.

The demands of producing multiple productions simultaneously each night require a lot of forethought and very tight integration of off-the-shelf components. The Dragons are unique in that they produce two separate productions – in-house and broadcast – with two separate crews, while sharing core system components. Alpha Video Sports brought their un-matched experience of working within Major League stadiums and installed a system that is one-of-a-kind in minor league sports. - Scott Rohrer, Creative Technologist with Mandalay Creative Services
